Services

I offer two types of therapy and they can be used individually or mixed in each session

Solution Focused Brief Therapy
'Look forward to the solution, not back at the problem.'

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) concentrates on finding solutions in the 'here and now' and exploring your hopes for the future to find a fix for your problem.

The core belief of this approach is that you know what you need to do to improve your own life and, with the appropriate coaching and questioning, are capable of finding the best solutions.  The other core belief is that talking about problems does not help when you are looking for solutions.

There may be several reasons why you would prefer SFBT.  If you feel that traditional, problem focused, therapy just doesn’t work for you.
Perhaps it feels that repeatedly going over your problem is not helping, perhaps even making things worse?
Maybe you just don't like the idea of discussing your problem with a complete stranger?

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is really different.
We don't even need to discuss the problem at all if you don’t want to.
Together we focus on what the solution will look like and you will decide on small steps that will take you to the future you want.

Some people only need one session and most people don’t need more than four.
Sessions are one hour long and not necessarily weekly. Four sessions could take place over ten weeks if that was what worked for you. You decide if you want to come back and together we agree the timing and dates.
It takes a maximum of 6 sessions.

Person Centred Therapy

Person centred therapy has at its core the belief that the client knows what is best, knows what is hurting and knows how to move forward.  My role as your therapist is to help you get in touch with your own inner resources.

Person Centred therapy is more traditional in that we spend time working on what lies behind the issues you are facing.

Sessions are one hour long and held weekly.
There is no maximum number of sessions and you decide when the sessions will end.

Online counselling
There are many benefits to online counselling, both practical and psychological.  The practical benefits are the lack of travel time, the ability to schedule and attend sessions at short notice and the convenience of being able to hold the session wherever suits you best.
There are potential disadvantages too : if you have no private space that you can use for the call then it may not be practical ; if you don't have experience using technology or you are uncomfortable with video calls then you may not be able to relax in the session and gain full benefit.

The psychological benefit is the "distance" between us.  If you are uncomfortable talking about your feelings with others then the barrier of the screen will offer an element of psychological protection as I will not be right in the room with you.
Not all therapies, or therapists will suit every person every time
(if you would like to research the different types of therapy then this list from the BACP may help)
There are many life events that can bring difficulties into our lives.  Sometimes it's difficult to even know what the problem is or give a name to the feelings we are experiencing.  If you want to talk then we can have a free trial session of 20 minutes and we can both find out if we can work together.
In general, therapy  may help with many difficult life events including :

Relationship breakdown, divorce or marital separation
Work stress and job loss or retirement
    Family breakdown or communication issues
    Personal injury or illness
    Dramatic change in finances
    Children leaving home
    Moving house
    Resolving trauma
    Recovering a direction in life
    Changing negative habits

 MY AVAILABILITY
I am available from Monday to Wednesday, closed on Thursdays and available on Friday.
The first session starts at 10:30 and time slots are available through the day until the start of the last session at 6:30 pm.
The costs are £60 per session.  Payment by bank transfer before the session starts.

Sessions take one hour and use Zoom video calling or telephone.

We will have a introductory video call to discuss what services you would like and we can explore if we suit each other before we commit to a session. The call is free and probably won't be longer than 20 minutes.
